Christmas, Jesus, love, and healing

Christmas is a special time for me as a Christian Scientist, as it is for all Christians.  It is a time to celebrate Jesus and what his coming upon earth means for us all.  He is the Son of God.  God is his Father.  And God is our Father.  Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father, which art in heaven…” Two very significant aspects of Jesus’ ministry stand out to me – love and healing.

Jesus was so loving!  I think one of the things he was teaching us by this love was that God loves us all.  Jesus once said, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you…” (KJV John 15:9) When a man came to Jesus and asked him what to do to inherit eternal life, as Jesus was answering him the Bible says, “…Jesus beholding him loved him…”(KJV Mark 10:21).  On another occasion, “… Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” (KJV Matthew 14:14)  His love naturally flowed outward and resulted in healing.

“…and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatic, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.” (KJV Matthew 4:24)

Christian Scientists believe in the saving, healing power of God’s love—that no one is beyond redemption, that no problem is too entrenched or overwhelming to be addressed and healed.  And they believe that Jesus’ teachings and healing work expressed scientific Christianity, or the application of the laws of God—laws which are still practical and provable today, by anyone, anywhere.  I’ve certainly experienced this in my life.  God’s love heals. Jesus’ love and healing ministry showed us that this is true!  Jesus was a living example of God’s great love.

Jesus once prayed “…that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.  (KJV John 17:23)

This is one of the reasons I love Jesus.

May you feel God’s great love for you, and if you’re in need of healing may you find it in God’s healing love today, and may your Christmas be filled with this love!
